“Telemedicine” is a generic term that involves different types of activity. In essence, telemedicine is a way to extend healthcare systems, improving the access and the effectiveness of the existing healthcare systems, especially in low-medium income countries.

Telemedicine works by the asynchronous communication among healthcare providers using the Information Communication Technologies (ICT). The most suitable, handy, user-friendly telemedicine activity is the teleconsulting (or “e-consultation” or “teleconsult”), which is defined as the telematic exchange of information between healthcare providers about clinical cases.
